XDS Introduces $99 SNAP ONE “Plug and Play” Solid State Appliance Designed to Easily and Securely Access Virtual Desktop Environments

Inexpensive, Small, Zero-Configuration and Maintenance Appliance Allows Users to Securely
Connect to Corporate Windows Desktop Environments On-Demand from any Broadband Network

New York, NY (January 31, 2007) – XDS, Inc., a privately held company targeting the digital virtualization market, today announced the introduction of its SNAP ONE plug-and-play appliance. The SNAP ONE (SIMtone Network Access Point) is the first SIMtone-compliant hardware desktop appliance that automatically connects to the company’s patent-pending SIMtone™ (Secure Interactive Mobile Tone) “digital dial tone” technology.  When powered on, the solid state appliance allows users to securely access corporate Windows desktop environments on-demand, from any unmanaged connection inside and outside a firewall.

The SNAP ONE appliance automatically connects to the SIMtone and requires no user software or network configuration or maintenance.  An enterprise employee needs only to plug the device into a high-speed Internet or network connection and power it on. The SNAP ONE appliance automatically detects the SIMtone and provides the user with a login to access corporate Windows desktop environment they are provisioned for. With the SIMtone, all data, applications and operating system functionality remains inside the firewall, providing a highly secure platform that can be accessible internally across the enterprise, branch offices, and remote locations.

With the SNAP ONE appliance, only pixels comprising a screen image are transferred in encrypted format and delivered locally to the user.  All data and applications, as well as the operating system, reside on the secure servers which the user is subscribed to.

Measuring 6.7 inches long, 4.9 inches wide and 1.5 inches in height, the fanless SNAP ONE appliance provides plug-and-play connectivity for a keyboard, monitor, mouse, Internet cable, a power on and sign in button.  The appliance supports video resolution of 1280 x 1024 and includes two USB 2.0 ports, a line out port and microphone plug.

SNAP  ONE appliances can be used seamlessly on corporate  networks  such  as  a  firewalled  LAN  as well as via  a  broadband  connection,  out of the box, without any user or IT administrator configuration required. SNAP ONE appliances, like any other SNAP, deliver the access to the SIMtone automatically without requiring user intervention, as soon as they are connected to any network and powered on. No software or network maintenance and configuration is required at any time during the lifetime of the device, significantly reducing IT TCO and improving productivity.

The SNAP ONE is available to SIMtone VDU™ subscribers for $99, about 50% less than regular thin clients, and over 70% less than the lowest cost corporate PC.  The SIMtone VDU was also announced today, providing an enterprise-grade, on-demand “utility-based” solution to securely deliver corporate Windows desktop environments seamlessly across broadband networks.
